The draft Civil Society Strategy recognises the role of civil society in Kent and sets out how Kent County Council (KCC) will work to support a strong and vibrant civil society across our communities. This strategy replaces our Voluntary and Community sector (VCS) policy agreed in 2015 and is the first Civil Society Strategy for KCC.

By civil society we mean all those individuals, informal and formal groups and organisations that operate outside of state control and for the primary purpose of social good. Whilst we recognise that private business can be socially motivated, this strategy focuses on those organisations that do not distribute profits, those at the core of civil society – voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. The VCSE or the ‘social sector’, a term, which we have used in this strategy is at the heart of a strong civil society.

Have your say

We want to hear the thoughts and feedback of people, particularly those in the VCSE sector, on this draft strategy so that the final version will reflect the contribution, priorities and needs of civil society in Kent.

Please read the draft Civil Society Strategy which can be found in the ‘Documents' section below.

You can share your comments by completing the online questionnaire by clicking on the ‘Respond’ link below the documents, or by clicking the Have Your Say box.  Alternatively, you can download the Word version of the questionnaire from this page.

Please provide your comments by 14 April 2020.

Following the consultation, the strategy will be updated based on feedback received prior to it being formally agreed in June 2020.
