Update May 2021

Having considered the consultation responses and investigated the alternative suggestions put forward the decision has been taken to proceed with the scheme as consulted on.

In early July we will carry out a statutory Traffic Regulation Order consultation on the additional double yellow lines. Notice will be displayed on site advertising this consultation.

Our intention is to start works in late July for a period of six weeks. Local residents, town councils, councillors and stakeholders will receive a Start of Works Notification prior to the works starting, with more details on the works.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation. A copy of the consultation report is now available to view in the 'Summary of Results' section below.

The consultation report will be presented at the next Thanet Joint Transportation Board (JTB) which is due to be held in December and a recommendation will be taken regarding how to proceed with the scheme.

We are consulting on a proposal to install a new signalised pedestrian crossing (Puffin crossing) on Canterbury Road, Westgate-on-Sea outside Ursuline College.

This scheme would provide a safe and convenient crossing point for pedestrians and could encourage more students to walk to school.

Work would include widening the central reservation to create a staggered crossing, allowing pedestrians to cross the road in two stages, ensuring traffic is stopped for the least amount of time.

Work would also include restricting vehicle access to Hengist Road to enable the crossing to be located in a safe position.
