Introduction

Notice is hereby given that KENT COUNTY COUNCIL will be placing an advisory reduction in the speed limit on the roads listed below for the safety of the school children arriving and leaving the school premises under Sections 81, 82, 83 and 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Paragraph 20 of Schedule 9 to the Act:

The reduction of the speed limit from 30MPH to 20MPH during school times is to provide a safer route to and from the schools and for the safety of all pedestrians using the school accesses, on the following sections of road in Blean, Canterbury:

Tile Kiln Hill – From the north western boundary of 24/26 Tile Kiln Hill to a point in line with the southern boundary of 1 Tile Kiln Hill. Whitstable Road - From the southern boundary of 1 Tile Kiln Hill for a distance of 256 metres in a southerly direction. Between the hours of 7.30am until 6pm Monday – Friday.

The Kent County Council as traffic authority are proposing to reduce the speed limit referred to above and as shown on the drawing accompanying this document for the following reasons :-

The reduction of the speed limit from 30MPH to 20MPH during school times is to provide a safer route to and from the schools and for the safety of all pedestrians using the school accesses.

  • For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
  • For preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which road runs.
