We are seeking comments on a revision of the adopted Kent Minerals and Waste Local Plan Safeguarding Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), April 2017.

The SPD accompanies the adopted Kent Minerals and Waste Local Plan and offers guidance on how to proceed with planning applications which have minerals and/or waste safeguarding implications.

The revised SPD has been prepared to fulfil a commitment given by the County Council to provide further clarification on the implementation of adopted safeguarding policies in an updated SPD. This commitment was made in response to representations made during the recent ‘Early Partial Review’ of the Kent Minerals and Waste Local Plan.

The revisions to the SPD seek to give greater certainty and guidance on how safeguarding should be applied during the planning application and local plan making processes. It does not change the safeguarding policies which were found sound by the Planning Inspector who reported on his examination of the Early Partial Review of the KMWLP in 2020.
